The newer the Abu Dhabi building, the less wall there is to work with. Apartments on Al Reem Island, Al Raha Beach and around Al Maryah are frequently glazed floor to ceiling, which leaves no reveal and no pier — and the aluminium mullion holding that glass is part of the facade, not a fixing point. Drill it and you put the thermal break, the seal and your standing with the building management at risk. The answer is a ceiling fix into the slab above the gypsum bulkhead, and that is a different job with a different set of tools.
Our fitters carry a detector, a laser level, threaded drop rods for deep bulkhead voids and separate anchor sets for concrete, hollow block and partition. Three things decide a curtain job in Abu Dhabi and none of them is the fabric. The first is whether there is anything to fix into at all. In an older villa in Al Mushrif or Khalifa City there is block wall above the window and the job is straightforward. In a newer apartment on Al Reem Island or Al Raha Beach the glass often runs floor to ceiling, so there is no reveal, no pier and nothing beside it but the aluminium mullion that holds the facade together. That mullion is not a fixing point: drilling it can compromise the thermal break and the seal, and it is the fastest way to fall out with your building management. The track goes up into the concrete slab instead, on threaded drop rods through the gypsum bulkhead.
The second is access. Most Abu Dhabi towers ask for a visitor or contractor pass, many want the service lift booked, and quiet hours are set building by building rather than across the emirate, so it is worth a message to your management office before you book — give us the building name and we will handle that side. The third is the sun.
